I love unassuming trinkets. Connections to places, people, memories all packaged in an innocuous exterior. My once proud collection was now at one however. A cloth artwork, black and white taped to my grey wall. Every glance provoked a flood of memories, vibrant surges of joy, pangs of regret.

20/20 Vision
A friend recently told me that I seemed like a different person each time we had caught up recently. And in essence, she was right- 2020, the year of finding oneself, has led me to test drive different personalities and outlooks. There was calm me, confident me, and a brash experiment where I attempted to incorporate a Dave Chappelle style of comedy into my daily interactions. The latter was harder than it looked on Netflix for sure.

Sandcastles really are an odd phenomenon. We put together a flimsy assortment of sand just for it to get washed away soon after. But these vulnerable structures are a vivid memory of my childhood, frittering hours away at the beach, laughing with my best friend as we watched the tide take away our creations.

I wasn’t always the adventurous type. Exploring needs an ally, for me anyway. But today I had my ally, and a sedentary day was far from my mind. A questionable psychiatrist once told me that coffee would be the cure for my anxiety. I didn’t believe her, but here I was sipping a flat white, the caffeine hit amplifying my nervous twitching. If the day’s events went smoothly, I could go home with a clear mind, one of the more underrated pleasures in life.
